In conclusion
Trip of a lifetime ? 🤔 - probably undersells it.
Its not a holiday for everyone and I am sure there are more scenic routes which can be taken. But, we went to drive Route 66 and that's exactly what we did.
Highlights - too many to state but if I picked one it had to be the Grand Canyon, it's hard to even describe just because of the overwhelming size.
No low points other than we didn't really like Las Vegas, we still had a good time there, loved the Venetian hotel, time spent around the pool and a nice hotel bar. But being constantly hounded for money and feeling like everyone is trying to scam you wears you down. Also 46 dollars for 2 drinks is a little over the top 😳
Chicago is a great city and really enjoyed San Francisco. LA is exactly as you expect, lots of people and busy everywhere.
Santa Fe was my favourite place we stayed, lovely hotel and a short walk to the shops restaurant and bars area.
Funniest moment was Blackey/Stiffey, you would have to ask Net to explain but I nearly crashed the car as I had tears from laughing.
Nets favourite meal was a burger 😳 yes a burger. Served with rib meat and a fried egg. Whilst I was trying to just cut my 7 inch high burger I looked across and Nets had already gone, devoured 😋. My favourite was Chicken Cacciatore at Cafe Zoetroppe in San Francisco, given the chance I would fly back just to have it again.
We feel very lucky to have made this trip and i feel even luckier to have done it with Net.
These holiday memories will live with me forever but it will always remind me of the 2 friends we lost whilst we were away. I know that both Ken and Jim would have both enjoyed the experience.
